Venice architects bridge generations with two-home design

Love of place more than space rooted Julie Smith-Clementi and Frank Clementi to their 600-square-foot, 1920s cottage and its sociable walk street in Venice.

The architect couple settled here in 1994 and two years later added a second floor, preserving the original footprint and situating the master bedroom to face west, toward the neighbor’s huge Southern magnolia, said by locals to be nearly 80 years old.

This was a new 7,000 square foot contemporary project designed by Beth Holden. This home features Corian countertops and cabinetry, radiant flooring with finished concrete throughout, Fleetwood windows and doors, a hillside pool, and hardscape. This home received a Silver Leed Certification.

This was a very difficult new 6000 square foot contemporary hillside home designed by Brent Seville. This home featured hardwood flooring, modern kitchens and baths, full glass entry, and a very unique walking bridge leading to its 2 story artist tower. This project also featured a pool that sat up approx. 30 feet over the descending hillside.

Hollywood Hills

This was a 4500 square foot interior remodel from top to bottom including pool, hardscape, and landscaping. This home features traditional open beam ceilings, hardwood flooring, a custom antique fireplace mantel, and custom wood windows and doors. Additionally, it features handmade hard wood framed mirrors and cabinetry in bathrooms, and old world terra cotta tile with accenting. The entire interior received faux finishes and accents that replicates the intended old world Spanish feel. The exterior continues this feel with Spanish pergolas, a full BBQ, fire pit, and an infinity hillside pool with waterslide.

The Stone Canyon House

This was a 8,000 square foot traditional Tudor. The full remodel was designed by Richard Landry. This home features hardwood plank flooring and beautiful open beam wood ceilings with plenty of natural light throughout. Additionally it features Venetian plaster walls, oversized fireplaces, beautiful traditional baths and kitchen designs, and a full library.

Venice Canals Project

This was a new 4,000 square foot home right on the Venice Canal, designed by Steven Ehrlich. This project combines contemporary and industrial designs. The house was designed to combine warm contemporary living with a functional and sustainable work space. The house is three stories with a metal industrial stair case and mesh railings coming straight up through the center of the home. This house features radiant heat with finish concrete flooring, unique exposed wood truss ceilings, and sealed plywood wall finishes. Fleetwood windows and doors where installed throughout and a full raised lap pool was built. The backyard featured Treks decking, water features, and unique Zen inspired landscaping.

The Sherman Residence

This was one of our more unique projects, designed by Peter Tolkin. It is a 5800 square foot concrete contemporary home with a full guest house, pool, tennis court, custom dog run, and five-car detached garage, all nestled on approximately 3 acres. The house consists of solid board formed exposed concrete walls with 12-foot open beam wood ceilings. The ceilings seamlessly run from the interior space to the exterior overhanging eaves. Oversized Metal Window corp. windows and doors were used, providing more than adequate natural light throughout the entire home. Oversized limestone flooring was used throughout. The house features a large modern kitchen and beautiful artistic baths. This home was given an award by the concrete ready mix association for the overall finished quality of the concrete structure.
